Farewell Cambine

Our last day in Cambine got off to an early start. Starting so early has its pitfalls but breakfast does not. I might not be the first to mention this but the homemade bread from the orphanage does not disappoint. The team has fell in love and no other bread can take our hearts back. The bread contains no peanut butter nor any jelly but a lot of love from our two astounding cooks Maria Fatima and Victoria. They have done a wonderful job preparing all our meals throughout our stay. Much love and thanks to them.

Hitting the ground running, the team kicked off the day by dispersing into smaller groups with the strategic intention to maximize work output efficiency, battle plan designed and brought to us daily by our lovely team leader Erin (we love and appreciate you). The sewing squad (Carolyn and Kyla) worked diligently to create unique Mozambique bags that consisted of flashing colors and patterns that were destined to catch the eye of any consumer. Down in the dungeons of the Cambine carpentry building is where the painting platoon (Nicole, Lauren, Erin, Clarence, Jenna) went to war. The drudgery of this uphill battle consisted of applying a second coating of primer to the metal bars that surrounded the windows. It was evident that they had put in solid work after witnessing Nicole spill half a cup of paint on herself. Keep it up Nicole! The dodging duo of Cliff and myself fell under the spell of Klaus, following him around all day doing hardware projects. The missionary himself bounced from project to project leaving us urging to see what was going on in that brain of his.

The clock struck four and it was time: popcorn. The food we live and die by. With the help of Renatta, Nicole and Kyla formed an overpowered trio, mass producing a whopping three buckets of popcorn! Kyla proceeded to tell the team at dinner all about her bottomless stomach and how she ate a considerably large amount of the popcorn she had made. Nice going Kyla! More importantly, this popcorn was not for us. It was movie night at the orphanage and we were not going to miss Portuguese Aladdin. We provided the snacks and drinks, it was a night to remember. The orphanage kids kept coming back for more and more popcorn, disproving Kyla's statement, "I have a bottomless stomach". Sleep tight with all that in your system kiddos! On the pick-up truck ride back to the guest house Jenna surprised a few of us with her unexpected knowledge of astronomy (the stars are marvelous here). Thanks Jenna!

Concluding our last day in Cambine, the team and myself want to wish all of the people who made our visit feel like home a big thank you. We truly appreciate all the accommodations that were made and the amount of people who believed in our work and vision was heartwarming.

Thank you and farewell Cambine! We all hope to see you soon. Now, off to the beach where Clarence is hoping to show off that new, nice, and chiseled beach body.

Over and out from the notorious blog engineer,

Joe DiPetto

P.S.

Mother, if you do not read this I will be disappointed. Also, I have not had wifi for a week and I cannot wait to hear that lovely voice of yours!
