Today our group visited the widows' home in Massinga. We woke up around 8am, enjoyed breakfast, and hit the road. After driving for about a half an hour, we stopped at a local market to pick some gifts we could bring to the widows. These included four one-hundred pound bags of rice, lotion, soap, kapalanas, detergent, onions, beans, peanuts, and various other items that they could use. The donation from our United Methodist Women allowed us to supply the widows with everyday items that will last them months. When we arrived at the widows home we immediately were greeted with smiles all around. The widows enjoyed our sing along and all the gifts we were able to give them. On our way out they asked us to stay longer and appreciated our non-judgmental attitudes.

After driving an hour back to Cambine, we enjoyed another fantastic lunch made by our wonderful cooks. Following lunch, some members of our group headed out to assist some of the locals with their sewing projects while others assisted in moving some machinery to another location. Eventually everyone joined up at the sewing room and was able to lend a helping hand. At five o’clock we headed back to our guest house for dinner. Kyla led us in devotion and then some members enjoyed an impromptu movie night.

Today gave us a lot of perspective on focusing on the little things. We were able to interact with the widows in a special way, even with the language barrier. Tomorrow we head out Chicuque to visit a local hospital and do a little shopping.

Hope all is well in Annandale,

Lauren
