This morning we joined the Cambine community for their Thanksgiving service. We all wore the capulanas that were given to us by the church last night. The service was an energetic 4 and a half hours of music and dancing in both Portuguese and Xitswa (the local language). People brought money, cabbage, sugarcane, peppers, oranges, and live chickens as gifts for the church. We were not the most impressive dancers, but we did sing and Kyla gave an impromptu solo (which was beautiful!).

After lunch, we visited the orphanage again and played all afternoon. We definitely had just as much fun as the kids did. Some of them decorated hats, others played soccer or lacrosse, and most of them ran around and climbed all over us. The children are so bright and friendly, and we loved getting to spend time with them. They love taking over our phones and snapping pictures of themselves! Some of them are pretty good photographers! Near the end, they taught some of us some songs and dances and enjoyed how awkward we all looked trying to do them. So many of them are amazing musicians and participate with such joy and enthusiasm.

Tomorrow, we head to Massinga to visit a community of widows. We’re looking forward to shopping for capulanas to bring them as gifts before we get there.

I am going to go outside now, and see the stars (which are amazing!). Blog dictator Joe will randomly assign another victim to write tomorrow!

P.S. Tracy – Kyla’s still doing good :)
